The Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA relocates to the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site in Barcelona

Following a very successful period of operations since the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, the Executive Board of the Association decided that it was necessary to relocate to new Headquarters. EMEA has grown to include over 55 experts and associate members. Furthermore, it now has partnership agreements with 25 leading universities and research institutions from both the North and South Mediterranean countries.

The new base operations of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA is at the Sant Pau Art Nouveau Site, a unique landmark of outstanding beauty and Unesco World Heritage Site. Designed by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, the site comprises a total of 27 Art Nouveau buildings and it was built between 1905 and 1930. After housing the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau (one of Europe’s oldest healthcare centres) for more than eight decades, a restoration project commenced on the old pavilions in 2009. n 2014 the complex re-opened as the Sant Pau Art Nouveau site, the largest of its kind anywhere in the world.  Currently six of the restored pavilions including the Administration Building, Sant Rafael Pavilion, Sant Jordi Pavilion and Operations Pavilion are open to the public. Other buildings are used by organizations such as the World Health Organisation, Casa Asia, the United Nations and the European Forest Institute.

Now the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA is one of the privileged organizations, allowed to base its Headquarters to this unique location.

The Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association -EMEA serves as a leading forum for thinking and debate on the political and socio-economic reforms in the North, South, East Mediterranean and Africa, with the aim to promote sustainability and regional economic integration. It aims to contribute to the changing realities in the Euro-Mediterranean region by bringing together leading economists and high-level experts to think for the future of the Euro- Mediterranean region in a global context. It will strive to contribute to the rethinking of the Euro-Mediterranean and African economic policies in view of the new dynamics of a multi-polar world. EMEA promoted and co-funded the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies (EMNES) and other initiatives.
