FEPS – Cairo University joins the WTO Chairs programme

We are very honored to announce that EMNES Partner, FEPS – Cairo University, has been selected to join the WTO Chairs programme.

FEPS team was led by EMNES Director for Egypt Dr Chahir Zaki, Associate Professor of Economics at the Faculty of Economics and Political Science, Cairo University, and Director of the French section at the faculty. Dr Zaki works also for the Economic Research Forum (Cairo, Egypt) as a part-time Lead Economist and as a consultant for several international organization (the World Bank and the International Trade Center (UNCTAD-WTO, Geneva) and ESCWA). The Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA will collaborate with the FEPS WTO Chair.

FEPS – Cairo University is one of the 17 new participants selected from a total of 126 applications from academic institutions from 54 WTO members following a rigorous selection process led by the Chairs Programme Academic Advisory Board.

The 17 new members will join the Chairs Programme network, which will now consist of 36 universities. The expanded Chairs Programme network will strengthen the opportunities for peer-to-peer learning, collaboration between universities, and outreach activities with policy makers.

The WTO Chairs Programme was launched in 2010 as a capacity-building programme to improve knowledge and understanding of the multilateral trading system through the Chairs’ teaching, research and outreach activities in developing and least-developed country members.
